Lady Charlotte Elizabeth Canning, also known as The Countess Canning, was a prominent figure during the colonial era in India. She was married to Charles John Canning, who later became The Earl Canning and served as the Governor-General of India. In 1860, Lady Canning was captured in a group portrait alongside Major Jones and Lady Campbell at Barnes Court in Simla. This picture showcases her elegance and grace, reflecting her high status within society. Another photograph from 1861 depicts Lady Canning alone in Simla. The creator of this image remains unknown but it captures her beauty and poise perfectly. Lady Canning's influence extended beyond Simla. In 1858, she was photographed with guests at Government House in Allahabad. These pictures highlight her social prowess and ability to connect with people from various backgrounds.
