The Star Inn BB57_00149
THE STAR INN, HIGH STREET, ALFRISTON, WEALDEN, EAST SUSSEX. Street view looking north up High Street with a focus on the Star Inn, and with two other listed buildings in the background.
A street view of the High Street in Alfriston with a focus on the Star Inn, on the left side of the image. The inn is a 15th century timber framed building with plaster infill and a jettied upper floor with three windows. At the far left is a post with an animal carving. To the right of the inn are two other listed buildings; the first is the Saddlers House and Ye Olde Tea House, which has sign boards leant up against the building and a hanging sign over the door; and the second, further in the background, is Patricia Okeley and the Old Manse. In the top right hand corner is a sign for an inn and hanging below another sign which reads: " Tamplins wines & spirits luncheon & teas", which is most likely for the George Inn, a 15th century timber framed building. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of a charming English village, with its historic buildings and quaint streets. The focal point of the image is the Star Inn, a magnificent 15th century timber framed building that exudes character and history. Its jettied upper floor with three windows adds to its architectural charm. As we explore the scene further, our eyes are drawn to two other listed buildings in the background. On the right side of the inn stands Saddlers House and Ye Olde Tea House, adorned with sign boards leaning against its walls and a hanging sign over its door. This picturesque establishment invites visitors to step back in time and indulge in traditional tea delights. Further into the distance, Patricia Okeley and the Old Manse catch our attention. These structures add depth to this street view panorama, showcasing more of Alfriston's rich heritage. The photo also captures smaller details that enhance its authenticity. In one corner, an animal carving on a post catches our eye – a delightful touch that adds whimsy to this historical setting. Lastly, signs for various establishments can be seen throughout the image. One particularly intriguing sign reads "Tamplins wines & spirits luncheon & teas" most likely belonging to another ancient pub called George Inn. Overall, this print beautifully encapsulates Alfriston's timeless appeal – an idyllic village where history comes alive through stunning architecture and atmospheric streetscapes.
