CHELSEA AND WESTMINSTER HOSPITAL, FULHAM ROAD, KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA, GREATER LONDON. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II signing the visitors book at the official opening of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, as a group of guests watch.
Sir William Doughty, chairman of North West Thames Regional Health Authority, is shown beside the Queen in this photograph.
Laing Management Contracting worked on the construction of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on behalf of the North West Thames Regional Health Authority between 1989 and 1993. The new teaching hospital was built on the site of the old St Stephens Hospital, which was demolished in the early months of 1989. The use of fast track construction techniques enabled the entire project to be completed in less than 5 years, and the hospital was officially opened by the Queen on 13 May 1993

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness a moment of historical significance as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II graces the official opening of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. With grace and poise, she signs the visitors book while a group of esteemed guests look on in awe. Standing proudly beside her is Sir William Doughty, chairman of North West Thames Regional Health Authority. The construction of this magnificent hospital was no small feat. Laing Management Contracting worked tirelessly between 1989 and 1993 to bring this vision to life on behalf of the North West Thames Regional Health Authority. The site where St Stephens Hospital once stood was transformed into a state-of-the-art teaching hospital through the use of innovative fast track construction techniques. Completing such an ambitious project in less than five years is truly remarkable, showcasing both efficiency and dedication. It's no wonder that this momentous occasion called for royal recognition. On May 13th, 1993, Queen Elizabeth II officially opened Chelsea and Westminster Hospital with great pride. This photograph captures not only a significant milestone in healthcare history but also serves as a testament to the hard work and collaboration that went into its creation. As we gaze upon it today, we are reminded of the enduring legacy left by those who dedicated themselves to improving medical care for generations to come.
