Laing Homes Special Projects worked in partnership with Hackney Council and a consortium of housing associations to redevelop the estate which had originally been built in the 1970s. The aim of the project was to provide over 1000 new and refurbished homes over a 6 year period, following traditional street patterns and providing gardens for residents. This photograph is part of a batch taken to show the demolition of Rowan Court which took place on 24th March 1996. This print captures the dramatic scene of demolition on Holly Street Estate in Dalston, Hackney. During this period, Laing Homes Special Projects collaborated with Hackney Council and a consortium of housing associations to revitalize the estate originally constructed in the 1970s. Their ambitious goal was to provide over 1000 new and refurbished homes within six years while adhering to traditional street patterns and incorporating gardens for residents.
