Show flat JLP01_08_066124
Darnhill, Heywood, Rochdale. The living and dining room in the Sectra show flat at Heywood.
This Sectra show flat was on the first floor of a 13-storey block and was completed 13 weeks after the first Sectra formwork unit had been lifted into position. The flat was one of 51 two-bedroom and 12 bed-sitting room flats contained in each block. The flat was furnished for the occasion with Brian Amos carrying out the decor. An article on the show flat describing it as the first Sectra flat to be opened was published in August 1963 in Laings monthly newsletter Team Spirit. The exact location of the site shown has not been recorded in the negative register but it is believed to be the Darnhill Estate

1960s Domestic Flats Furniture Housing Estate Interior Dining Room Living Room
EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the stylish living and dining room of the Sectra show flat at Heywood's Darnhill Estate in Rochdale. Located on the first floor of a 13-storey block, this particular flat was completed just 13 weeks after the installation of the first Sectra formwork unit. The show flat boasted an impressive array of accommodation options, including 51 two-bedroom flats and 12 bed-sitting rooms within each block. For its grand opening, Brian Amos meticulously decorated this modern living space to perfection. The attention to detail is evident in every corner, from the carefully chosen furniture pieces to the thoughtfully arranged decor elements. This remarkable achievement caught such attention that it was featured in Laings monthly newsletter Team Spirit in August 1963. Although we do not have an exact record of its location within Darnhill Estate, this photograph captures a snapshot of domestic bliss during the vibrant era of the 1960s. It serves as a testament to both architectural innovation and interior design excellence.
