The King Class locomotives, also known as the 4-6-0s, were the largest and most powerful express passenger locomotives in the Great Western Railway (GWR) fleet. Built between 1925 and 1930, these locomotives were designed to haul the heaviest express trains on the GWR network, including the famous Cornish Riviera Express. Swindon Shed, located in Swindon, Wiltshire, was the largest locomotive works in the world at the time and was responsible for the maintenance and repair of over 1,000 locomotives.
