EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking photograph captures Douglas A-26B Invader N84W, a military aircraft with an intriguing history. Delivered to the French Air Force (Armee de l'Air) in January 1951 as 44-34555, the Invader served in Indochina with Groupe de Bombardement 1-19 Gascogne (GB 1-19) based in Tourane (Da Nang), Vietnam, under the radio callsign F-UHIP. After its military service, the aircraft underwent several civilian ownerships. In 1963, it was converted into a corporate jet for E.G. Rodman-Rodman Supply Co of Odessa, Texas, and registered as N84W. Over the next decade, it passed through various hands, including Carl W. Swan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Rojo Inc of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, who registered it as N550. In 1978, it became the property of the Bank of Beaufort in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and later was owned by Larry S. Jeter of Lubbock, Texas. On August 3, 1989, the Invader was acquired by Hal Kaden-Southwest Aviation Inc of Fairacres, New Mexico, and registered as N26HK. It continued to serve with Southwest Aviation in Las Cruces, New Mexico, until 1995 when it was stored dismantled. The aircraft was later restored at Hollister MAP in Texas, retaining its historical significance as a former military workhorse that saw action in Indochina. This photograph, estimated to date from circa 1967, captures the Invader in its corporate livery during its time with Rodman Supply Co.
