Mammoth bone hut. Archaeologists inside a reconstruction of a hut made from bones and tusks of the woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius). The walls of the hut are almost entirely composed of mammoth bones, supported by a framework of wooden branches and supporting struts. This hut dates from between 45, 000 and 10, 000 years ago in the Palaeolithic period (Stone Age). It was found in Mezhirich in the Ukraine. The walls of this remarkable dwelling are constructed entirely from mammoth bones and tusks, supported by wooden branches and struts. Intriguingly, these scientists have taken on the role of musicians as they experiment with using mammoth bones as percussion instruments.
