Optical photo of the star Sirius using star filter

The two bright stars just below centre are Alpha Centauri (left) & Beta Centauri. To their right are the four stars forming the constellation of the Southern Cross, or Crux Australis. Alpha Centauri, also known as Rigil Kent, is a triple star system, the two brightest components of which form a yellow-orange visual binary. The third component, Proxima Centauri, is the closest star to Earth at a distance of 4.3 light years. Beta Centauri, or Hadar, is also a binary star; it is much more remote at a distance of 424 light years. The photograph was taken from Pauhatanui, New Zealand. (North is at top). 50mm, f/2, 20 sec exposure, Fujichrome 1600 + 2, photographed from Pauhatanui, New Zealand

This stunning optical photo captures the brilliance of the star Sirius, adorned with a star filter that enhances its celestial beauty. Positioned just below the center are two radiant stars, Alpha Centauri and Beta Centauri. To their right, we witness the captivating formation of the Southern Cross, also known as Crux Australis, composed of four dazzling stars. Rigil Kent, an alternate name for Alpha Centauri, is a triple star system where its two brightest components create a mesmerizing yellow-orange visual binary. Proxima Centauri, the third component in this system, holds significance as it stands as Earth's closest neighboring star at an astonishing distance of 4.3 light years. Meanwhile, Beta Centauri or Hadar shines from afar at an awe-inspiring distance of 424 light years away from us. This extraordinary photograph was taken in Pauhatanui, New Zealand and showcases North at its topmost position. The image was captured using a 50mm lens with an aperture setting of f/2 during a remarkable 20-second exposure time. Fujichrome 1600 +2 film played its part in preserving this breathtaking moment for eternity. Immerse yourself in this cosmic spectacle that combines elements of science and artistry to unveil our vast universe's wonders - constellations dancing across space like celestial brushstrokes on a canvas painted by nature itself.
