EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the grandeur of Osmaston Manor, a lost gem from England's architectural history. Taken by an English photographer in the 20th century, this image is featured in Giles Worsley's book "England's Lost Houses" published in 2002. Osmaston Manor was constructed in 1849 for Francis Wright, who owned Butterly Iron Works. This neo-Gothic masterpiece boasted intricate Victorian architecture with mullioned windows and a towering presence that exuded elegance and opulence. The manor stood proudly on its grounds, surrounded by meticulously manicured gardens that added to its allure. Sadly, Osmaston Manor met a tragic fate when it was demolished in 1965. However, this photograph allows us to appreciate its imposing beauty before its destruction. The terrace provided a perfect vantage point to admire the stunning exterior of the building and take in the breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. The image captures not only the physical structure but also hints at the rich history contained within those walls. It serves as a poignant reminder of our architectural heritage and encourages us to cherish these treasures while they still stand. Thanks to Bridgeman Images' Fine Art Finder collection, we can now preserve this piece of history through this remarkable photograph by MZPhoto (not affiliated with any company). Let it serve as an inspiration for future generations to value and protect our cultural landmarks.
