EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur of Apsley House, also known as No 1, London. Located in Westminster, London, this magnificent townhouse has been the residence of the Dukes of Wellington since it was purchased by Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington in 1817. Originally built between 1771 and 1778 by Robert Adam for Lord Apsley, the Lord Chancellor at that time, Apsley House underwent significant renovations under Wellington's ownership. Benjamin Dean Wyatt was commissioned to create a State Dining Room, bedrooms and dressing rooms, as well as the impressive Waterloo Gallery. The red brick exterior was later clad in Bath stone to enhance its architectural beauty. This print allows us to appreciate both its architectural splendor and its significance within British culture.
