Apsley House, Westminster, London, c1800 (1878). Also known as No 1, London, Apsley House, is the London townhouse of the Dukes of Wellington. The house was originally built in red brick by Robert Adam between 1771 and 1778 for Lord Apsley, the Lord Chancellor. Apsley house was bought by Wellington in 1817. Wellington employed Benjamin Dean Wyatt to carry out renovations to create a State Dining Room, bedrooms and dressing rooms and the Waterloo Gallery. The red brick exterior was clad in Bath stone. Located in Westminster, London, this magnificent townhouse has been the residence of the Dukes of Wellington since it was purchased by Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington in 1817. Originally built between 1771 and 1778 by Robert Adam for Lord Apsley, the Lord Chancellor at that time, Apsley House underwent significant renovations under Wellington's ownership. Benjamin Dean Wyatt was commissioned to create a State Dining Room, bedrooms and dressing rooms, as well as the impressive Waterloo Gallery.
