Elbow flexion, artwork C016 / 6789

Elbow flexion. Artwork of the muscles of the arm from the front, with red arrows showing the direction of movement when flexing (bending) the elbow. The flexion here is shown from the 90 degrees position towards the maximum of 145 degrees (red arrows at top). This maximum is reached as the muscles of the forearm and upper arm come into contact and harden, especially the biceps brachii (red arrows, bottom). The main muscles involved in elbow flexion are the brachialis of the elbow, the brachioradialis of the forearm, and the biceps brachii of the upper arm. The nerve used is the musculocutaneous nerve. This is the right arm. For the left arm, see C016/6790

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo print, titled "Elbow Flexion, Artwork C016/6789" showcases the intricate muscles of the arm from a frontal perspective. The image highlights the process of flexing or bending the elbow through a range of motion, with red arrows indicating the direction of movement. Starting at a 90-degree position, the illustration demonstrates how the arm can be flexed towards its maximum angle of 145 degrees. As this movement occurs, various muscles play crucial roles in facilitating elbow flexion. The brachialis muscle located in the elbow joint and brachioradialis muscle in the forearm contribute to this action alongside the biceps brachii situated in the upper arm. Notably, it is fascinating to observe how these muscles come into contact and harden as they reach their maximum point. The musculocutaneous nerve serves as an essential component for coordinating this complex maneuver. This particular artwork represents a right arm; however, there is also a corresponding illustration available for left arms (C016/6790). With its white background and detailed depiction, this print provides valuable insights into human anatomy and physiology. It offers an excellent resource for studying biomechanics and understanding normal muscular function within our bodies. Whether you are interested in biology or simply fascinated by our remarkable musculoskeletal system, this artwork beautifully captures both scientific accuracy and artistic representation.
