Royal Navy Melin Mk 2 Helicopters on HMS Illustrious

Royal Navy Merlin Mk2 helicopters on the flight deck of HMS Illustrious during Exercise Deep Blue.
HMS Illustrious was off the coast of the UK undergoing aviation training. A Merlin Carrier Air Group (MCAG) consisting of nine Merlin Mk2 helicopters from RNAS Culdrose had joined the ship to take part in the exercise.
The Merlin Mk 2 is the Navys new-and-improved version of the worlds leading anti-submarine helicopter, conducting its initial trials with the Royal Navys first line of defence against the threat from underwater foes: the Type 23 frigate.
The Merlin has been in service with the Royal Navy for more than a decade, but is in the middle of a £ 750m revamp which will see the fleet of helicopters, all based at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose in Cornwall, ready to take the fight to submarines until the end of the 2020s

EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures a stunning display of Royal Navy Merlin Mk 2 helicopters on the flight deck of HMS Illustrious during Exercise Deep Blue. The mighty aircraft carrier, stationed off the coast of the UK, was undergoing aviation training when it welcomed a Merlin Carrier Air Group (MCAG) from RNAS Culdrose to participate in the exercise. The Merlin Mk 2 is an upgraded version of one of the world's leading anti-submarine helicopters and has been serving with distinction in the Royal Navy for over a decade. These powerful machines are currently undergoing a £750 million revamp at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose in Cornwall, ensuring their readiness to combat underwater threats until at least the end of 2020s. In this image, we witness these magnificent warbirds lined up on HMS Illustrious' deck, ready to take on any challenge that comes their way. Their sleek design and advanced capabilities make them an integral part of Britain's naval defense strategy. As they stand against a backdrop of clear blue skies and sparkling ocean waves, these formidable Merlins symbolize both strength and precision. They serve as a reminder that our armed forces remain ever vigilant in protecting our waters from potential adversaries lurking beneath its surface. This photograph encapsulates not only the mightiness of these helicopters but also pays tribute to all those who work tirelessly aboard HMS Illustrious and other vessels like her to ensure our nation's security at sea.
