The...ceremony of personally introducing ladies to the Queen, beside whom stand their Royal Highnesses the Princess of Wales, Princess Louise (Marchioness of Lorne), and Princess Beatrice...The lady to be introduced to her Majesty was in each case presented by some lady of her own family or friends, who had previously been admitted to the Court...The Queen was attired in a dress of embroidered black satin, the black satin train of which was trimmed with tulle and crape; she wore a long white tulle veil, and on her head a diadem adorned with diamonds and opals. Her Majesty's ornaments were a necklace, brooch, and earrings of diamonds and opals, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Garter, and the insignia of the Order of Victoria and Albert, that of Louise of Prussia, and that of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha'.
