Jung Perchard was a gift to the Prince of Wales, Edward VII, who had encountered him during his shooting expeditions in India twenty years prior in 1876. At the time, Jung Perchard was a much smaller elephant, but he grew to become a beloved attraction at the Regent's Park Zoo, providing countless youngsters with memorable rides on his back.
