This photograph takes us back in time to the picturesque village of Polperro, Cornwall, in the year 1861. The image showcases the bustling activity along the harbour walls from a landward perspective. A group of men can be seen standing on the inner wall, their figures silhouetted against the vast expanse of sea and sky. The significance of this moment is heightened by knowing that construction for the Prince of Wales Pier was about to commence. Just days after this photo was taken, on September 5th, 1861, the foundation stone for this iconic landmark would be laid. Preserved through time and now presented as a photographic print from Thomas Q.
