The work, created between 1567 and 1573, is a testament to the human spirit's unwavering faith and hope in the face of unimaginable suffering. The image depicts a group of plague victims, their gaunt faces etched with despair, pleading for mercy and relief from the Holy Trinity - Christ, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Roch.
