EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the intensity and chaos of Lochiel's Charge at Killycrankie, a significant event in Scottish history. The Battle of Killiecrankie took place on 27 July 1689 during the first Jacobite uprising, pitting Highland Scottish clans loyal to King James II against troops supporting King William of Orange. In this image, Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel, Chief of Clan Cameron and one of the principal commanders in the Jacobite rising, can be seen leading his fierce warriors into battle. Dressed in traditional Highland attire with kilts flowing behind them, these brave men charge forward with weapons raised high. The scene is filled with action as violence erupts all around. The air is thick with tension as swords clash and men run for their lives. Despite the monochrome nature of the print, one can almost feel the energy and hear the cries echoing across the battlefield. This historic moment showcases not only Scotland's rich heritage but also its unwavering loyalty to its leaders. It serves as a reminder of a time when clans fought fiercely for their beliefs and were willing to lay down their lives for their cause. Preserved through time by British Battles on Land and Sea by James Grant, this remarkable print allows us to glimpse into an era long gone but forever etched in our collective memory.
