This photograph captures the elegant and sophisticated presence of Camille Clifford, the renowned stage actress and Gibson Girl model, as she pays a visit to a stable in Epsom during the 1930s. Born as Camille Clifford in 1885, she later married the actor, Leslie Evans, and became known as Camille Clifford Evans. Her striking beauty and grace made her a popular subject for illustrations, earning her the title of a Gibson Girl. The Gibson Girls were a series of illustrations created by Charles Dana Gibson in the late 1890s, depicting idealized, fashionable women of the time. Camille's slender figure, high-necked blouses, and full skirts epitomized the Gibson Girl look. Her acting career spanned over three decades, and she appeared in numerous productions on both sides of the Atlantic. However, Camille's passion for horses was equally noteworthy. She was an accomplished horsewoman and owned racehorses, which she trained and raced. In this photograph, she is seen in her element, surrounded by the horses at the stable. The horses, too, seem to be drawn to her magnetic personality, their ears pricked in her direction. The year is 1933, and the 30s were an exciting time for both Camille and horse racing.
