EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning photograph captures the sleek lines and elegant design of the de Havilland DH89 Dragon Rapide, registration number G-AHKA, as it soars through the sky. The Dragon Rapide, a versatile and popular aircraft during the interwar period, was manufactured by de Havilland Aircraft Company between 1934 and 1939. The Dragon Rapide was known for its advanced features, including a fully enclosed cabin, retractable landing gear, and a twin-wasp engine. It was capable of carrying up to nine passengers and could reach a top speed of 155 miles per hour. The aircraft was also used for various purposes, including passenger transport, mail delivery, and even as a military trainer. G-AHKA, in particular, has an interesting history. It was originally delivered to the South African Airways in 1937 and was later used by the South African Air Force during World War II. After the war, it returned to civilian use and was eventually acquired by a private owner in the United Kingdom. The aircraft underwent a thorough restoration and is now a cherished addition to the vintage aircraft community. This photograph beautifully showcases the timeless beauty and grace of the de Havilland DH89 Dragon Rapide, G-AHKA, as it gracefully cuts through the clouds. The image is a testament to the enduring appeal of aviation history and the fascination that aircraft continue to hold for generations.
