The late Jurassic Solnhofen limestones used to lithograph these German prints sometimes contained finely preserved fossils of the very epoch they illustrated. Note, for example, Archaeopteryx in the sky above - itself discovered in Solnhofen. Also featured are Rhamphorhynchus (5) Pterodactylus (4) Plesiosaurus (2) Teleosaurus (3) Ichthyosaurus. Note that earlier mistakes such as the fin outline of ichthyosaur are still perpetuated
