QUEENSGATE CENTRE, CITY OF PETERBOROUGH. Sir Maurice Laing, Sir Christopher Higgins; Chairman of Peterborough Development Corporation, and other guests posed beside the foundation stone for the Queensgate Shopping Centre during the unveiling ceremony.
The contract for the Queensgate Centre, located in the heart of Peterborough, was awarded to Laing in 1975. Various planning enquiries and design changes delayed the start of the work however the inauguration ceremony finally took place in April 1978. The multi-level shopping centre was designed with a large car park and a new bus station, and many well-known retailers such as John Lewis, British Home Stores and Littlewoods were to occupy the larger stores. The complex was opened to the public on 9th March 1982
